Article Abstract:
British Airways PLC (BA) have moved one of their UK call centre operations to Bombay, India, as part of their strategy to reduce costs by 1 billion pounds sterling by the year 2000. BA opened their first call centre at Ruislip, England, but have since opened call centres in various locations throughout the world. BA Chief Surveyor Colin Clarkson suggests the cheap cost of labour in India will allow them to offer a 24 hour service and therefore overcome problems with time differences. Rents in Bombay, for the new call centre, are 70 pence sterling per sq ft.
