InStaffs refuses to take sides
Article Abstract:
Staffordshire, England, had suffered from a lack of inward investment due the unavailability of suitable sites. InStaffs was set up in 1997 to encourage investment into Staffordshire, England. Some 70 inward investments were obtained for the county by InStaffs, during 1997. InStaffs has benefitted from an increased number of vacant sites. The management tries to encourage developers to undertake speculative development to bring more business into the county. Staffordshire has sometimes lost out on potential investments which have gone to nearby Wales or Birmingham, England.

Nothing taken for granted
Article Abstract:
There has been extensive regeneration in Liverpool, England, during the 1990s. Regeneration has focused on leisure facilities, but there has also been extensive residential development in the city centre. The regeneration programme has had a positive impact on the city's economy, but many observers feel that Liverpool has relied too heavily on grants for its redevelopment. It now appears that the city will only be able to pursue its regeneration if it can attract blue-chip funds and developers.
