Making the connection
Article Abstract:
The three necessary elements for gaining access to the Internet are a computer, a modem and an access provider. The most common hardware used is a Windows-compatible PC with around 4 MB of free hard disk space. A fast modem with a speed of 28,8000 bpc is recommended as it will reduce telephone costs. There are several access providers which provide users with a link to the Internet. Their monthly service prices range from between 10 pounds sterling and 15 pounds sterling.

Article Abstract:
Those who wish to connect to the Internet must subscribe to an ISP, which makes it possible to dial in to servers connected to the Internet. It is important to ensure that the ISP has convenient access from any location. It is possible to connect to the Internet or local area networks using laptop and notebook computers via PCMCIA cards, which are easy to load. Notebook PCs can also be used to send and receive faxes and electronic mail.
