The retail market in Rotherham, England, has been adversely affected by the 1 million sq ft Retail World centre on the outskirts of town. Prime rents for retail space in Doncaster, England, have reached 100 pounds sterling per sq ft. Demand for retail space in Sheffield, England, is good, with prime rents achieving 200 pounds sterling per sq ft. The leisure market in Sheffield has been very buoyant but some bar and restaurant operators have faced problems obtaining alcohol licences. Demand for additional leisure space has slowed down.

The city of Sheffield, England, now has a wide range of high quality sporting facilities. There has also been strong growth in the city's leisure property sector. A health and fitness centre operator is in negotiations for a prelet at the Airport Business Park, while David Lloyd Tennis Centres is reported to be considering a property on the west side of the city. A 1,394 sq mt leisure scheme is to be jointly developed by Langley Estate and Finnegans, while other plans include an art gallery linked with the Victoria and Albert Museum.
