Negotiating loan commitment letters
Article Abstract:
Real estate loans still form a substantial part of the portfolio of several US financial institutions despite poor economic conditions. However, borrowers do not some to realize the benefits of engaging the services of an attorney throughout the lending process. Lawyers can help borrowers negotiate the terms in a commitment letter and can point out unfavorable terms being stipulated by the lender. Since lenders often close their minds to further negotiations once the commitment letter has been executed, it is highly important to have an attorney from the onset of the loan process.

Breaking the deadlock: win-win negotiating
Article Abstract:
Business negotiators should regard their counterparts as opposing partners instead of adversaries to reach compromises more effectively. Negotiations based on merit, or principle negotiation, are expected to produce better results than the adversarial process of positional bargaining. Such negotiations separate relationship from substance, focus on interests over positions and are based on objective criteria.
