Leisure centre
Article Abstract:
Leisure development has played a key role in the regeneration of Manchester, England, following the 1996 bomb explosion in the city centre. The city council has been very active in promoting cultural activities, and planning policy has been quite favourable. However, the city's leisure sector is now attracting national brewers and institutions, and this is making the differences between its cultural quarters less distinct. There is also concern that leisure developments are taking place in a ring around the city centre, leaving the centre itself lifeless.

Pitch battle
Article Abstract:
Property developers across the UK are promoting large leisure schemes, usually known as urban entertainment centres. The key issue is how these schemes will affect the existing main leisure pitches in each town or city. There is no set model for how urban entertainment centres will develop, and their impact will probably be different from town to town. It is widely believed that a careful blend of tenants is the most important element in attracting customers to a new scheme.
