Private function and public listing
Article Abstract:
The upsurge in the hospitality trade in the United Kingdom has caused larger hotel chains to expand whilst the smaller hotels have found it much more difficult to finance any improvements. For hotels whose parent companies are listed on the stock market raising additional finance does not present a problem allowing them to acquire hotels which are unable to compete on their own. Although hotels have raised their prices demand for rooms remains high.

Takeover times
Article Abstract:
The UK hotel industry has been affected by a major takeover, that of Forte, acquired by Granada. It is too early to assess the impact of this acquisition on the industry in the UK. There is strong demand for hotels of good quality in prime locations in provincial England, and prices should be strengthened by the lack of such properties being offered in the market. Prices are hardening during 1996, but no major changes are forecast for this year.

Room for growth
Article Abstract:
Popular UK hotels are selling well although their values are remaining static. Hotels at troublesome sites, including those in coastal areas, are not being sold quickly. Hotel buyers expect to purchase at a realistic price, regardless of future benefits from expansion. A table of hotel deals since April 1996 is shown.
