Article Abstract:
The UK Country Landowners Association's Farm Buildings Award Scheme, which is run every two years, aims to encourage the construction of farm buildings that make a positive contribution to their surroundings. Most entries are for the conversion of traditional farm buildings to non-agricultural and residential use. However, entries for new buildings are also strongly encouraged. The scheme reflects the fact that there now many more factors to take into account when designing farm buildings than in the past.

Rental evidence distorted
Article Abstract:
Farm Business Tenancy rents will inevitably influence Agricultural Holdings Act tenancy rents, according to valuers. There is strong variation in agricultural rents in the UK, but they are generally under upward pressure. This will create difficulties in ensuring that they remain sustainable. 'Marginal rents,' which existing farmers pay for bare land which would attract no additional overheads except rent paid and finance costs, are proving particularly influential.
