Proving comparables
Article Abstract:
The Civil Evidence Bill will have a fundamental impact on the use of comparable evidence in property valuations. The BIll allows for hearsay evidence to be made admissible in civil proceedings, as long as the other party is given notice of it. Valuers could be permitted to provide hearsay evidence about the open market value of a property if it can be shown the valuer was made aware of the value through reports or talks with other valuers. First-hand evidence will always take priority, however.

Negligent remortgage valuations
Article Abstract:
The Court of Appeal has declared that the case of Saddington versus Colleys Professional Services will fail. A couple remortgaged their home on a valuation of 350,000 pounds sterling, although they believe it could not have been worth more than 205,000 pounds sterling. It was ruled that the valuer was not liable for the loss of 100,000 pounds sterling invested in the couple's failing business.
