Retail therapy failing
Article Abstract:
The UK retail industry may improve with economic recovery, but some analysts argue that the recovery has already slowed and the peak of the cycle has been reached. The MetroCentre leasehold in Gateshead, England, will be sold by the Church Commissioners, and there is debate as to whether this asset is being sold at the peak of the market or whether a better price could be obtained by waiting. Out-of-town sites are faring better than city centers and the government is seeking to curb new out-of-town developments, which increases the value of existing developments.

Churchill Square: putting the great back into Brighton retail
Article Abstract:
Churchill Square, Brighton, England, is undergoing a redevelopment program which is hoped to significantly improve the economic outlook of its retail trade. The redevelopment is unusual because it involves partial demolition, and the council is allowed to keep 90% of the profits as an incentive for the sale of retail property to private companies. 73 million pounds sterling is being invested by Standard Life, the new freehold owners. The shopping centre's multi-story car park is being upgraded as well.
