Sea change
Article Abstract:
The Greenalls Group is hoping to expand into hotels, with health and leisure facilities within the same complex. Finding new sites of around 5-6 acres to house their new concept may prove difficult. Industry observers suggest Greenalls purchases, between 1990-95, made it uncompetitive particularly as some, such Boddingtons, were considered to be over priced. The value of its shares have increased from 300 pence, in Sept 1997, to 450 pence, in Apr 1998. The company intends to invest 25 million pounds sterling on new outlets in its main areas of operations, hotels, leisure and public houses.

Hotel market all fired up
Article Abstract:
The hospitality industry in Bristol, England, is extremely buoyant and operators are looking for properties of all types. Budget hotel accommodation is in short supply and operators in this segment are looking for city centre properties for conversion with a combined area of 40,000 square feet. The large student population is proving attractive to trendy restaurant operators, and agents believe there are opportunities for nightclub developments and the establishment of a gay district.

Hotels bed down for expansion
Article Abstract:
A number of large hotel chains in Britain are developing inexpensive hotel accommodation in the empty offices of towns and city centres. Whitbread and Granada are among those which forecast strong growth in the budget hotel market. Budget hotels have become particularly popular in the 1990's following a shift in preference from expensive accommodation during the economic recession of the late 1980's. Granada intends to develop three new Travelodge operations across Britain.
