Smoking out the facts
Article Abstract:
The UK government's Private Finance Initiative (PFI) has sought to unite many conflicting interests, and it has therefore been very hard to assess whether it has really been effective. Some observers feel that PFI is more expensive than traditional methods of procurement and that the predictive modelling undertaken before PFI got underway has been proved to be incorrect. However, it would be fair to state that the property industry has in fact gained more benefits from PFI than is widely recognised.

Dull market fails to dampen Burford's plans for 1996
Article Abstract:
Property concern Burford Holdings saw a 16% rise in net assets in 1995 from 1994, even though the property market was quite weak. It boosted its overall shareholder value by almost 60p to 149.8p per share, benefiting from the flotation of shares in the Trocadero in Piccadilly Circus, London, England, on the Alternative Investment Market. It expects the market to remain weak in 1996, and will therefore focus on extracting additional value from assets.
