Steamroller or saviour?
Article Abstract:
Vodaphone were able to overcome planning restrictions and gain permission to build their new 555,000 sq ft headquarters building on a greenfield site in Newbury, Berkshire. The authorities confirmed Vodaphone was a special case. Some observers are concerned the new building will result in an increased demand for houses. Vodaphone had threatened they would move out of the town completely if their plans were not agreed. The majority of local people supported Vodaphone. The company already had 50 outlets in the town.
