Stobart makes the connection

The haulage and distribution company Eddie Stobart is planning to move some of its operation onto rail freight particularly between Scotland and Daventry, England. Stobart has 650 trucks in its fleet and had a turnover of 65 million pounds sterling in 1996. The company plans to build a 25 million pounds sterling European distribution outlet at the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal. Stobart already owns 3 million sq ft of warehouse space and 17 depots throughout the UK. The company is privately owned by the Stobart family and it sells merchandising through its own fan club.

DFDS Transport is searching for land to construct a new building to incorporate the company's headquarters and four warehouses. The management prefer to own their buildings rather than be subject to a landlord. DFDS is spending 4 million pounds sterling on new offices and a depot near Warrington, England. They plan to construct a network of depots throughout the UK. DFDS is the UK subsidiary of the Danish company DFDS Transport Group. The company distributes products around the UK and overseas.
