A waiting game
Article Abstract:
Local agents point out much of the industrial and distribution land around Leeds, England, is being held by developers. Demand for buildings is buoyant but few new sites are available. The location of Leeds gives it very good access to the motorway system and therefore a popular site for distribution and industrial firms. Many developers are waiting for the adoption of the local plan to be competed which will have implications for the amount of land made available for development. The widening of the A1 link to the M1 motorway is due to be finished in Dec 1998.

Flight to quality
Article Abstract:
Industry observers have suggested that some 75% of the available secondhand industrial space is not suitable for occupation. There is a shortage of good new and secondhand industrial space in the UK, with increasing competition for vacant sites. The secondhand market in Birmingham is buoyant and in both the North East and North West of England the demand for secondhand units is increasing. Property agencies in the South East also report an improving market, with only buildings built in the 1960s remaining in any number.
