Virginia moves business at Internet speeds
Article Abstract:
Virginia is attracting many companies because of a decidedly pro-business attitude which has made it a desirable place to do business. The state and its local communities have a very strong, tightly knit and well-coordinated economic development effort, a well-educated workforce that has made the permits and regulatory process for relocating businesses quick and easy. This has enabled it to attract companies such as America Online, which is building a $520-million technology center in Prince William County, and MCI WoldCom, which is building a $200-million center in Loudoun County.

Alabama: welcoming in big business
Article Abstract:
A can-do attitude and a favorable business climate are two reasons why Alabama has become a serious contender for big businesses looking for expansion sites. Among the plus-factors of Alabama are its highly skilled labor supply, good transportation system and competitive electrical rates. In addition, the state has created the Alabama Technology Network, a consortium of technical colleges, to provide problem-solving support to business. The Alabama Industrial Development Training, on the other hand, provides training support free of charge to both companies and employees.

Indiana: a state of progress
Article Abstract:
Indiana's traditionally proactive approach in creating a pro-business climate has been the underlying factor in the success of the state in attracting and retaining large and small corporations. In the late 1990s, this stance has been particularly beneficial and enabled Indiana to experience a boom in business relocations to the state across a broad spectrum of industry. Evansville, Indianapolis, Muncie and northern Indiana have become very hot markets.
