Bucyrus: cooking up business
Article Abstract:
Bucyrus is a town in Crawford County, OH, that is well-known for its annual Bratwurst Festival, when people from neighboring towns attend to eat 30-40 tons of sausages. The German origin of this celebration hints at the town's attitude toward work. The economic mix of Bucyrus is dominated by manufacturing including roller bearings, fluorescent lamps, fiberglass boats, industrial and commercial hose and wire harness. Although a large portion of its workforce is in manufacturing, many are also involved in farming, which is the town's biggest business. As a result, many companies operate a two-shift work system for employees.
