Volvo Trucks' Robert Whelen banks on Virginia for North American future

Dublin, Virginia-based Volvo Trucks North America's $148 million, multi-phase expansion of its New River Valley assembly plant will enable the company to boost production of commercial trucks by 66% to 50,000 units per year. For North America, Sweden-based AB Volvo aims to grow organically, while it grows through startups, acquisitions and partnership in other parts of the world. By locating in Virginia, the company aims to take advantage of the complete package offered through the Virginia Investment Partnership. Robert Whelen, director of Industrial Development, Environmental Affairs and Real Estate for Volvo Trucks North America, was a key player in the division to expand.
