Building for the future
Article Abstract:
Prowting Homes is a construction contractor based in Ruislip, England. The 83-year-old firm weathered the recession by first scaling back on output during the early years and then by accelerating operations through the purchase of house builder Galliford Homes in 1993. Under new management, Galliford increased its house building activities, although profits remained stagnant. However, for FY 1994, Prowting's pretax profit rose by 134% to 9.6 million pounds sterling.
