When retail space goes bad
Article Abstract:
Adaptive re-use is a redevelopment approach that has traditionally been associated with the conversion of light industrial property to office or multi-family uses. However, it is beginning to become useful in the retail segment, where the number of obsolete and superfluous properties is rapidly increasing. This is aptly illustrated in the study of the conversion of a vacant enclosed mini-mall into a fully occupied, state-of-the-art call center employing more than 1,000 people.
