In the curve of the Mississippi
Article Abstract:
The words needed to comfort African-American students in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina were not easily forthcoming on return to the writing class at Southern University. As such, the students were handed out a piece of paper, which had three fragments of prose and poetry, suggesting their relatedness in geography and history, in past and present storms as Jews and African-American students have always participated in each others' experiences.

The pinwheel in the storm
Article Abstract:
A feeling of desolation accompanies the approach after Hurricane Katrina to the house along the silent street, covered in tree trash and empty of people, but the garden flowers are blooming and the pinwheel is spinning in the wind. Its strength is surprising and encouraging, just like the spirit of the people of New Orleans, who will rebuild better after the devastation.

Invisible perfection
Article Abstract:
The pilgrimage-like visit back to the community was made with the hope that the fear of pre-Katrina images of everything would be forever replaced with new images. However it is surprising that everything can be pictured, as it once was, mere and invisible perfection as human memory is an entity in and of itself.
