Vaya tormenta! In the shadow of Katrina
Article Abstract:
In the shadows of Katrina, Latinos have become part of cultural landscape, though they have been present for long, and the crisis had an amplifying effect on fear, especially when breakdown forced reliance on word of mouth. An insight is gained on how the Latino context is different in the South, especially the centrality of fear, and the themes of cultural misunderstandings, language barriers, and fear made the Latino experience of Hurricane Katrina different.

Tales from a broken coast
Article Abstract:
When New Orleans was turned into a squalid version of Venice in August 2005 many thought that the end was near and many residents chose to flee while some continued to stay on.
