Of being ethical: reflections on George Oppen
Article Abstract:
George Oppen's poems have a marginal position in the majority of literary histories, mainly due to the link with Louis Zukofsky's objectivist tendency during the 1930s. However objectivism is not represented at all in Paul Hoover's Postmodern American Poetry. The differences between objectification in Pound's poem and the writing described by Oppen and Zukofsky as objectivism is discussed. Bernstein calls on Oppen's work to be read as a hinge between modernism and postmodernism.

George Oppen in exile: Mexico and Maritain
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to gather whatever information is known about the period of exile and it is used as a way to answer some questions relating to George Oppen's return to poetry in 1958. After his exile, in 1958, George reported a dream to a therapist in which his father urged him to start writing and it is because of this dream that George began writing his first new poem.
