Hong Kong's quiet hero stands his ground
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong will face many challenges as Chinese sovereignty is established, according to leading Hong Kong pro-democracy campaigner Martin Lee. He heads the Democratic Party, the largest political party in Hong Kong, and has gained considerable international recognition. However, he expects his party to be shunned as the Chinese authorities take control, and is already aware of efforts to marginalize him. He believes that the Democratic Party has already been very conciliatory towards China.

Patten wipes a tear as Last Post sounds
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong Governor Chris Patten felt extremely emotional as he attended a ceremony marking the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong from the UK to China. He paid tribute to the achievements of the ordinary people of Hong Kong, and mainly glossed over Hong Kong's turbulent history. He emphasized the role of the UK in establishing representative government in Hong Kong, but was careful not to adopt a self-congratulatory tone.
