A Jew among Nazis
Article Abstract:
Marrying a Nazi was an unusual but effective way for a Jewish woman to gain protection in wartime Germany, according to Edith Beer, who was originally from Vienna, Austria, but assumed a false identity to protect herself during the war and was able to hide her Jewishness. She managed to live through the war years, but even after this time her life was in danger, and she had to flee with her baby. She remained in East Germany, but later decided to live in the UK.
