A Prima donna who ought to know better
Article Abstract:
It is possible that Cherie Blair, wife of UK Labour party leader Tony Blair, agreed to act as guest editor for the Oct 1996 issue of Prima magazine mainly in order to reinforce the image she is trying to create for herself as being an ordinary woman whose husband is worth voting for. She is in fact a very successful career woman, but this has been carefully overlooked because this image would be too threatening for many women. Strong emphasis is placed in the magazine on the fact that she enjoys household tasks such as knitting and cooking, and this is designed to make her seem more ordinary.

The woman of substance who remains an enigma
Article Abstract:
Cherie Booth, wife of new UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, played only a supporting role in the campaigning which preceded the recent general election. However, it is widely acknowledged that she is in fact highly intelligent and motivated and extremely good at communicating with many different kinds of people. She remains a mystery, appearing fragile and shy, whereas she is actually a leading lawyer and very ambitious. It is possible that her ambition to become judge will be compromised by her husband's position.

Two politicians' wives - but not the mirror image they might seem
Article Abstract:
There are few genuine similarities between Cherie Blair and Hillary Clinton, even though journalists have often attempted to draw parallels between these two first ladies. They are both successful lawyers, but that is the only thing they really have in common. Hillary Clinton has made a number of important mistakes in her role as first lady, and will provide a valuable lesson to Cherie Blair as she comes to terms with her new way of life.
