A campaign that makes you want to vote
Article Abstract:
The UK's political parties have become very practiced at ensuring that the attention of voters is focused only on a few issues. They produce a narrow message which is repeated at every opportunity, and take little account of the public interest. Many people, especially the young, react by deciding not to vote at all. It is vital that ordinary people realise that they hold the power in the forthcoming general election, and they must learn how to use the media in order to make sure that politicians are aware of their views.

At last, homeless people find a place on the agenda
Article Abstract:
Homelessness has unexpectedly and suddenly become a key political issue in the UK. This follows an interview in The Big Issue with Labour party leader Tony Blair and negative views on the homeless subsequently expressed by David Maclean, a junior minister at the Home Office. The Labour party believes that the homeless have a duty to help themselves, while the Conservative party has actually had a negative impact on homelessness by cutting welfare benefits to young people.

Why prize rows are good for art - and business
Article Abstract:
Controversy is a key element of the formula which surrounds prizes in the arts, such as the Booker prize for literature. It is particularly useful in attracting the attention of the general public to the fact that a prize is being awarded. Both the Booker prize and the Turner Prize for art are a very unusual mix of art and business. They contain many elements which have joined together with the effect of increasing public interest in the arts.
