A censor in cyberspace
Article Abstract:
A wide range of software programs designed to restrict children's access to unsuitable Internet sites is now becoming available. Some programs allow parents to set up their PC to request a password, shut down or even e-mail them at work if a child tries to gain access to a website or newsgroup that features on a list of prohibited sites. However, users of these programs should be aware that the software company is deciding which Internet sites are suitable for children and which are not. Net Nanny, already a market leader in the US, works on the basis of keyword filtering, and allows parents to add or remove keywords.

Technology in the driving seat
Article Abstract:
Information technology is beginning to have a significant impact on the way in which cars are marketed. A number of manufacturers are making growing use of computer terminals in their showrooms, and Ford even plans to go as far as installing virtual reality equipment, allowing potential purchasers to 'drive' a car in the showroom. Specialist sales staff have been replaced at 15 Mercedes-Benz dealers with direct video links to staff at a central office. In a related development, information technology is also making it possible to closely monitor the location of company cars.
