A chilling wind blows in from the Gobi desert
Article Abstract:
France, Russia, America and therefore Britain have declared moratoriums on nuclear tests. China is still testing. The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) is due for renewal in 1995. In Sep 1992 the Chinese had their 16th underground explosion, a nuclear bomb with power corresponding to 20,000 tons of TNT. Testing demonstrates possession. NPT is supposed to aim for general disarmament but this is ignored. A Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) would help limit an increase in countries with nuclear weapons.

Article Abstract:
The town of Copacabana, Bolivia, is a significant pilgrimage destination. Many people visit Copacabana's spectacular marble cathedral to make offerings to the black, wooden Madonna presented to the town in the 16th century. Visitors will see many signs of Christianity being mixed with ancient religions. Copacabana is also a good base from which to visit the Lake Titicaca region. The particular attraction of that region is Sun Island, which has strong religious associations.
