Paying for the new pioneers
Article Abstract:
It is now time to concentrate research funding in only a small number of key universities in the UK if high quality research is to be continued, according to a group set up by the British Academy, the Conference of Medical Royal Colleges, the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering. It must be recognised that there are not sufficient resources to fund successful research at all universities, and that this situation is not likely to improve. Rationalising research work is therefore the best solution.

She became particularly well known for her work on the Oxford Regional Hospital Board between 1963 and 1972 and her work for the National Nursing Staff Committee between 1967 and 1975.
