A defeat for spin, a victory for honest journalism - or is it?
Article Abstract:
Journalists generally like to believe that they report only the truth. However, this approach is open to many different interpretations, and it can be claimed that it is never really possible for a journalist to report only the truth. Journalists betray their sources by reporting only parts of what they say, often without the appropriate context. They are further guilty of betrayal by accepting material from people who are known to be untruthful and reporting it without warning the general public than it may not be true.

When the pen is the key to the gaol door
Article Abstract:
It is clear that journalism can play a significant role in putting a stop to human rights abuses. Indeed, public exposure has been shown to be a vital element in the fate of many well-known dissidents. However, it would be misguided to place strong faith in the power of published information. One problem is that human rights journalists can rarely control how information is disseminated around the world. Another is that journalism can put lives in danger, including those of journalists themselves.

Why newspapers need a saviour
Article Abstract:
The UK's newspapers still have some very good elements, but journalism as a whole has become self-obsessed and loose. There is an obsession with filling as much space as possible, and this has prompted a decline in journalistic standards. Sales have dropped significantly, and steps must be taken to restore the mass appeal of newspapers before they become totally redundant. It is also time to challenge journalists who resort to underhand tactics to find stories.
