Videos a force for good, says Disney
Article Abstract:
New research conducted on behalf of US based entertainments giant, Disney, by Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital has discovered that video watching by children may not be as detrimental as previously assumed. The report which is published on 05 June 1998 reveals that video watching may actually be taking the place of the old fashioned story teller. Videos are increasingly becoming a way of teaching, and with 96% of homes in the UK owning a video and 50% of children having a television in their bedrooms, this is likely to continue. Researchers discovered that after watching a video most children are able to recall songs and stories from the tape and are then able to draw pictures of scenes from the story and even play a game based on the story. Meaning that videos are taking the place of what was once the realm of the parents, of story telling and teaching of social skills. It is also thought that if used properly videos could encourage children to understand moral and social issues.

Hi, how are you? You after knickers?
Article Abstract:
A number of shops in London, England, employ people to greet customers as they enter. This is particularly the case at upmarket shops on Bond Street. Greeting customers seems rather alien to British culture, and even the greeters themselves appear to be uncomfortable with their role. Most Britons like to remain anonymous while they are shopping, and would greatly resent the intrusiveness of greeters.
