A driving force the politicians forget
Article Abstract:
There are currently more than 23 million cars in use in the UK, but politicians seem largely oblivious to the issues raised by high levels of car use. The country faces severe traffic congestion, and building more roads would seem to be the only viable solution. However, the Labour and Conservative parties have both failed to be specific on policies in this area, and it has been left to the Greens and Liberal Democrats to take a stand. Problems are likely to get worse as car dealers offer more incentives to potential purchasers.

Money makes the wheels go round
Article Abstract:
Anyone considering purchasing a new car must first establish how much money is available for a deposit. Attention must also be given to the part-exchange value of your existing car, to how much money is available for monthly loan repayments and to how often you are likely to want to change your car. The most common forms of funding for a new car purchase are hire purchase or a bank loan. It is advisable to obtain proposals from several different sources of finance before making a decision.

Motor industry shows some backbone
Article Abstract:
Company car sales are the most important area for the UK motor industry: over half of new car sales are company purchases. European Commission and Monopolies and Mergers Commission reports found that company cars do not adversely affect car purchase for private buyers. Large fleet operators obtain large discounts but most fleets have under 75 cars. The usual contract mileage used by leasing and contract hire firms is 20,000 miles a year.
