A father's crime, his child's punishment
Article Abstract:
A person convicted of a sex offence is assessed by social services for the rest of their life. Treatment at a private clinic is available but extremely expensive. The offender would probably have to pay for it. The well-being of any children of the offender is considered, but social services do not always have suitable qualifications to assess the progress of the offender. Often families are kept apart although a stable family life is good for the child and helps the offender to rehabilitate.

The horrors of crime to come
Article Abstract:
The amount of crime committed by young people is increasing dramatically, both in numbers and in range. Youngsters commit most burglaries and car thefts and are responsible for between a third and a half of all sexual offences against children. Convictions for rape, arson and aggravated robbery among this group have increased considerably. Actions by social workers and police have resulted in many of these young people not reaching court but this can act against their long-term interests.

Corporal punishment
Article Abstract:
Some performance artists are now stretching their bodies to their limits, and are prepared to endure great pain. Audiences have now come to expect suffering and bloodshed, and complain if this does not happen. Some observers feel that this trend is now being taken too far, and are beginning to claim that society has a duty to protect these artists from themselves. However, some artists are still looking for ever more extreme approaches.
