A killing combination
Article Abstract:
The Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, offers a great deal of flexibility, according to Greg Doran, who is directing a production of William Shakespeare's 'Macbeth' at this theatre. This production stars Antony Sher, Doran's long-term partner. He uses rehearsals to allow the actors to explore their own deepest fears. He does not feel that he allows Sher to dominate the production, and emphasizes that he has discussed 'Macbeth' as much with Harriet Walter, who plays Lady Macbeth.

There was this Irishman...
Article Abstract:
Samuel Beckett lived in Paris, France for 50 years and wrote in French, though he came from Ireland. Some analysts argue that he is funniest in French, while others see his native brogue as funnier. Beckett was born into a culture that was linguistically ambivalent and he was acutely sensitive to the idea linked to modern alienation that language can speak people. A festival of Beckett's works is being held at the Barbican Theater in London, England, in Sep 1999.
