Having some fun with dysfunction
Article Abstract:
Writer Michel Houellebecq believes that his novels are all ideas, rather than action. His first novel, entitled 'Extension du domaine de la lutte' in French and 'Whatever' in English, presents the view that the sexual revolution of the 1960s was closely linked with a free sexual market. This has attracted considerable controversy, as has his second novel, 'Les Particules Elementaires,' which will be published in the UK in 2000. Houellebecq believes that reading changes your world view, and he therefore prefers reading to writing.

The mouse that roared
Article Abstract:
Filmmaker Lynne Ramsay is aware that her debut film, 'Ratcatcher,' is not perfect. She feels that, if she made a perfect film, she would probably never make another one. She emphasizes that she sought to avoid the features typical of films set in the 1970s. She is angered by the fact that much attention has been given to her status as a Scottish woman filmmaker, and wants merely to be seen as a filmmaker. She also rejects attempts to categorize her work.
