A life in art - and fiction
Article Abstract:
The publishing company owned by former rock star David Bowie has published a fake biography of a New York artist named Nat Tate, who was claimed to have drowned himself at the age of 31, by author William Boyd. The book received extensive publicity, with nobody in artistic circles wishing to admit that they had in fact never heard of Tate. Those involved with the launch did not wish it to be a malicious venture, but were amused by the fact that everybody in artistic circles kept silent about their apparent ignorance.

The main problem with this controversy is that it has made ordinary people opposed to financing the arts properly.
