A natural-born killer that fears no weevil
Article Abstract:
Research undertaken at the East Malling, England, research centre of Horticulture Research International indicates that blackbeetles can be effective in combatting vine weevils, which can cause extensive damage in the garden. Enzyme linked immuno-sorbent assay testing was used to establish exactly what blackbeetles eat, and this allowed researchers to discover that the Notiophilus biguttatus beetle is a key consumer of vine weevil eggs and very young larvae.

Love in bloom
Article Abstract:
Roses remain by far the most popular flower for Valentine's Day, and this means that they are often sold at very high prices. However, roses are not really at their best at that time of year, and are much better as a summer gift. Other popular flowers for Valentine's Day include carnations, lilies, tulips and daffodils. The most attractive of these are tulips, which are subtle and elegant and are available in many different shapes and colours.

Here's a thorny problem
Article Abstract:
A number of factors need to be taken into consideration when planning to plant a hedge. Some people may want the hedge to block out unsightly structures, while others may want it to provide shelter from the wind and others may want it to produce edible berries or nuts. Once the correct hedging plants have been selected, the ground where the hedge is to be planted must be thoroughly cleared of weeds, allowing the hedge to thrive.
