Article Abstract:

Apple has always enjoyed strong loyalty from users of its Macintosh computer system. However, the company has recently announced losses, and its market share has been restricted to only 9%. It has been badly affected by the success of IBM and of the Microsoft MS-Dos operating system. The gap between IBM and Apple narrowed even further when IBM adopted technology allowing even inexpensive microcomputers to emulate the capabilities of the Apple Macintosh. Apple is now to undertake extensive restructuring, including cutting 3,000 jobs.
