A new age for Asian women
Article Abstract:
It is still made very clear to Asian women in the UK that they are merely on loan to their own families and that their parents' responsibility is to transfer them to the control of their husbands. This belief is in many cases more firmly embedded in the culture of Asians in the UK than in the culture of India and Pakistan, as diaspora communities tend to become very conservative. Some changes are taking place, but this will be a long process. Those running institutions must become more aware of Asian women in the UK without falling victim to stereotyping.

Bradford's culture clash
Article Abstract:
The city of Bradford, UK, has recently seen several days of rioting, with Asian youths clashing with the police. The violence of the Asian youths has caused great concern in a community which likes to see itself as peaceful and law-abiding. The police have also be accused of using excessive violence, but feel that their situation is being widely misunderstood. There has always been a tendency to exaggerate Bradford's cultural problems, and this makes it hard to analyse the situation fairly.
