A new generation of mothers
Article Abstract:
The UK has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies of any European country. This rate continues to rise, having increased by 11% in 1998. The government has repeatedly failed to take action on this issue, even though it is clearly a serious social problem. It is clear that an authoritarian approach will not be effective, and that great imagination is required if young people are to be made aware that having a child at a very young age is not desirable. It is important to realize that teenage girls often actively want to have a baby because the alternatives, such as low-paid employment, are so unattractive.

This nation is sexually immature
Article Abstract:
The apparent obsession with public portrayals of sex in the UK could be a sign of sexual immaturity and insecurity, rather than of sexual freedom. Young people have come to regard sex as a commodity they need to have, and this fuels the high level of teenage pregnancies.
