A people crying out for equality
Article Abstract:
The Turkish government's policies towards its Kurdish minority are not making any contribution towards resolving the problem. In fact, treating it as a security issue is in fact making the situation worse. The Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) is certainly a security threat, but the government's excessive use of force only makes ordinary Kurds more sympathetic towards the PKK. Until Turkey grants the Kurds basic rights, it will find it hard to forge closer links with the European Union.

Flight spells doom for the West's noble ideals
Article Abstract:
The peace settlement for Bosnia was intended to bring together again the many cultures in Bosnia following several years of war. However, it is having the opposite effect, and is creating isolated communities of different nationalities which are hostile towards each other. Serbs are now settling in exclusively Serb parts of Bosnia, while Croats are living in exclusively Croat parts and Muslims are living in exclusively Muslim parts.
