A sting in the tale of the crayfish
Article Abstract:
The UK Environment Agency has established that the insecticide cypermethrine, which is used in sheep dips and sprays, was responsible for the death of large numbers of crayfish in the river Avon. This incident, the cause of which still has not been found, is of great disappointment to conservationists, as considerable efforts had been made to preserve the integrity of the Sherston Avon. It is not yet certain what the long-term effects of the pollution of this part of the river will be.
