A weak euro is not a weak EMU
Article Abstract:
It is likely that the value of the euro will continue to fall for some time to come, merely because this is how the markets are behaving. However, this will not make it any less unwise to judge a currency by its external value, rather than its internal value. If the weakness of the euro against the dollar were an indication of wider concerns about European monetary union, then the markets would reflect that concern with rising long-term bond yields which would be higher than the alternatives in the US, but this has not been the case.

Ireland shows the way to euroland
Article Abstract:
Critics of European monetary union argue that the Irish economy is overheating as a result of rigidities imposed by the convergence of interest rates. The Irish economy is likely to see slower growth, however, and inflation is low in Ireland. Ireland offers an educated work force and policies that favor business. Inflation is falling and productivity is increasing. There is a boom in house prices, but this is likely to be corrected with little impact on borrowers outside the housing market.
