Roll over Gutenberg - tell books the news
Article Abstract:
New electronic media such as the Internet and CD-Roms do not represent a direct threat to books, magazines or newspapers. These media are able to offer an extremely wide range of information, but this does not mean that they will replace printed material. In general, they have considerable technical disadvantages, and are finding it hard to establish themselves as a channel of mass communication. However, they could pose an indirect threat to printed material, especially as the ability to use a computer is already equated with literacy.

Wanted: financial advice that is genuinely independent
Article Abstract:
There seems to be a substantial gap between the interests of producers of financial services in the UK and their customers. This gap has emerged because it is very hard for ordinary people to rapidly assess whether they have purchased the most appropriate financial service or product. It is now time to consider how this situation could be improved. Measures could include structuring financial institutions to eliminate the gap between the interests of the company and those of its customers, as is seen with mutual societies.
