After a decade of war, what has all the violence achieved in the Balkans?
Article Abstract:
Conflict in the Balkans since the early 1990s has not resolved the region's problems. It is argued that continued international economic and political pressure is required if regional cooperation is to be fostered, along with a shift away from closed-door meetings.

A violent interloper on the stage of European history
Article Abstract:
Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's refusal to yield to pressure from Nato over Serb action against ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, appears to be motivated by a desire to ensure that he is remembered as one of a long line of Serbian and Yugoslav heroes. In particular, he wishes to be seen as a far greater leader of Yugoslavia than Tito ever was. It seems unlikely that Milosevic will be able to carry this off, but his stance will have a short-term impact.

Shifting people is no answer
Article Abstract:
A study of the history of ethnic cleansing in the Balkan region presents a clear moral choice. It must be accepted that ethnic cleansing can bring stability for future generations, or efforts must be made to prevent ethnic cleansing if human rights are to be upheld. It is clear that, in modern society, ethnic cleansing cannot lead to stability. The redrawing of the borders of all Balkan states, or at least the former Yugoslav states and Albania, will not bring peace.
