Film editor Alfred Roome developed an interest in the cinema at an early age. He made amateur films while completing his education in Paris, France, and gained employment as an assistant in the property department at Elstree in 1927. He became an assistant at the Shepherd's Bush Lime Grove studios of Gaumont-British in 1933, and was editor on the film version of the Ben Travers Aldwych farce 'Thark.' He soon gained a reputation for having a talent for editing a certain type of British comedy.

Peter Taylor
Article Abstract:
Film editor Peter Taylor worked his way up through the film industry, beginning in cutting rooms. He was responsible for assembly editing on highly respected British films such as 'The Third Man' and 'Uncle Silas,' and gained an opportunity to act as editor when Geoff Foot was not available to edit the 1954 film 'Hobson's Choice.' He made a significant contribution to this film, and in 1957 won the Academy Award for film editing for 'The Bridge on the River Kwai.'

Harold Kress
Article Abstract:
Film editor Harold Kress studied at the University of California at Los Angeles. He worked at MGM Culver City as assistant editor on the film 'Ice Follies of 1939,' and then became editor on films including the 1939 productions 'These Glamour Girls' and 'It's a Wonderful World.' The success of these films made him one of the leading MGM feature editors. He began to direct, and his first feature directing break came in 1951 with 'The Painted Hills.'
