Article Abstract:
The winner of the 10th Van Cliburn International piano competition will receive a cash prize of $20,000 and a two-year concert programme. The event, which is taking place in Fort Worth, TX, has attracted considerable media interest, especially in the competitors who have had to make great personal sacrifices. It is also a key event for the local community, with many people giving their services free to help organize all aspects of the competition. The competition was established in honour of Van Cliburn when he won the inaugural Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1958.
