All the Presidents' lies
Article Abstract:
One of the reasons why there is currently great turmoil on the political scene in the US is that the cost of lying has diminished. Lying has become much more socially acceptable, and the punishment for lying rarely measures up to the crime. Americans were aware before Bill Clinton was elected President that he had done wrong in the past, but they seemed able to overlook this. However, the fact that he is now facing the greatest challenge of his political career can be attributed more directly to his lying than to his sexual activities.

Clinton's aphrodisiac soap opera
Article Abstract:
The political scene in the US in 1998 was dominated by allegations relating to the private life of President Bill Clinton. He has come under strong pressure to resign, but has managed to remain in office. This reflects the fact that the moral landscape in the US is changing rapidly. However, he has not been able to avoid impeachment, and there are still many uncertainties to address, including whether he will be able to retain public support and whether the Senate will remove him from office.
