Allez le Tour
Article Abstract:
The Tour de France cycle race is the most popular live sporting event in the world. It attracts 15 million spectators over three weeks, and plays a significant role in promoting social unity in France. However, some observers believe that the Tour de France has become seriously tainted by the fact that some participants in 1998 were found to have taken drugs. Indeed, some feel that the 1999 race should not be taking place at all. It is clear that the race is not a real test of cycling ability, as some riders use drugs to give themselves an unfair advantage.

Cook's tour of Europe: a guide
Article Abstract:
Shadow foreign secretary Robin Cook is undertaking a tour during Aug 1995 aimed at promoting the Labour party's policies for making Europe more relevant and effective for ordinary British people. He believes that the arguments about Europe should be brought down to a level at which they will have a greater impact, moving away from complex discussions about European institutions and regulations. This approach shows a Labour party more wholly in favour of Europe than it has ever been before.

Tour de France: It whizzes by in 20 seconds, but they'll talk about it for 20 years
Article Abstract:
The Tour de France bicycle race has a very unifying impact on France, a very large country which is extremely ethnically diverse. The race, which lasts for three weeks every Jul, is watched by one in six of the French population, and often whole villages will line the route. There are often street celebrations in the towns and villages through which the race passes, and there is great competition among towns and villages to be the point of departure or arrival of a daily stage.
